The Impreza WRX has been used in the World Rally Championship since the 1993 season. Subaru constructors champion in 1995, 1996 and 1997, and the drivers Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Petter Solberg were champions of drivers at the wheel of an Impreza in the seasons 1995, 2001 and 2003 respectively.
As a result of the global crisis that occurred from late 2008 Subaru competiciion has decided to abandon the WRC.
Other versions of the Impreza are used in the D1 Grand Prix and the Japan Grand Touring Car Championship and in autoslalom powers
